Let’s refresh that Guantanamo discussion

22 10 2012

Prior to the final Presidential candidate debate on Monday, I thought this a good time to refresh the memory about Obama’s promise to close Guantanamo.

It is not closed.

Now, I think the fact that it remains open is a good thing – I didn’t think it should be closed. I’d rather have trials for terrorists held in a corner of Cuba than on U.S. soil.

But what Guantanamo does is focus on a broken promise from Obama. He wants to chide Romney for changing his position, but this change from Obama is drastic. He focused on Guantanamo so much it was one of the first items of business on his first day in office.

My repeatable recap on Guantanamo is here. Let’s see if this gets brought up in the debate.

Binders of Bullshit

18 10 2012

Really?

The liberals have grabbed onto the meme “binders of women” like they found honey dripping off trees.

Binders of women? No, actually this is the petition Notre Dame students signed to keep Obama from speaking at their Commencement. I couldn’t resist using the image!

The battle cry against Romney stems from his comment in the debate Tuesday when he was describing the binders of women his team brought him at his request as he was filling his cabinet as Governor of Massachussetts.

So instead of applauding the Governor for recognizing that applicants were not diverse enough (too many men) and instead of recognizing his extra effort to speak to women’s groups to seek out more women applicants, they instead seize on his comment as if it was some type of slander against estrogen bearing individuals.

Obama and Biden have refered to the binders of women on the campaign trail. It really has gotten that bad.

By making fun of the term, they are actually highlighting the good that Romney did. How refreshing the Romney identified that women were not represented in his applicant pool. How wonderful that he took action to get more to apply. What is wrong with this story? That he didn’t put the word “resumes” behind “binders of women”

If we are going to get into parsing words, let’s talk about the President’s tip toe use of the word terror in that Rose Garden speech on Sept 12. The mispeaking of THAT is far more pressing than the fact that Romney didn’t say the word “resumes” .

This is a binders of bullshit story.  And it will backfire.

Debate One Transcript

7 10 2012

After the past couple days, it has been interesting to see the Obama camp spin on the debate. They blame Romney. Others blame the altitude. They say Romney is lying. The moderator was bad. They are saying everything except “the President blew it.”

I just read the debate transcript. You can see how many times Obama interrupted the moderator and can see that he really did have more time (52% of the total talk time to Romney’s 47%). It is just that he didn’t say much in the time he talked. And it is CLEAR from the transcript that Obama’s plan for the future is non-existent.

His plan, clearly, is to focus on Romney and what a terrible person he is.

I hope Romney can keep the focus on Obama’s bad first term results and focus on his own different, upbeat plans for the future.

My “college freshman blame the middle school teacher” analogy

4 10 2012

Last night was the first debate between a very wimpy President and an eager Republican challenger.

It was a clear and decisive victory for Romney. Even the liberal media agree.

Though much is being written on every detail, one of the largest things that continues to annoy me is how Obama keeps blaming Bush. A total of 5 times last night he referenced how bad things were when he stepped into the Oval office. He keeps trying to evoke that memory to shift attention from the fact that he has done nothing to improve whatever situation he was handed.

So my analogy is this:

When Obama took office, a kid was a high school Freshman. That kid is now a freshman in college! Can you imagine that kid getting a bad grade, and arguing with their college professor that the bad grade was their middle school teacher’s fault? Can you imagine that kid saying it was because of middle school they are not doing well? That professor would say “well then what the hell did you do to improve yourself during 4 years of high school?”

And that’s exactly what Romney told Obama last night.

The Most Sketchy Obama ad to date

26 09 2012

IF you are informed, then you know it: the latest Obama ad is the most sketchiest ad to date.

It shows the “secret” video someone took at a Romney fundraiser where he was talking ELECTION STRATEGY about how there is 47% of the population he can’t do anything about because they are going to vote for Obama no matter what. Our PRESIDENT actually is showing footage of that illegally taken video in an ad, that he approved, and then he shows the faces of firefighters, teachers, and normal people who fall in that 47%.  He has totally taken the video and Romney’s remarks out of context and made it seem worse than it ever was.

Then in the same ad, he says Romney paid a lower tax rate than most Americans. Oh my god! Romney pays a lower rate because he earns investment income! It is not payroll tax – which is a higher rate. It is LEGAL. Obama DOES IT TOO.

Obama is deliberately misleading Americans twice in one ad. I just simply cannot believe the President of the United States has stooped this low to mislead Americans just to save his own job.

Talk about the economy Obama. Talk about your failed foreign policy. Talk about your plan for Social Security? (crickets chirping) Talk about jobs. But NO, he does nothing like this, but instead runs misleading ads like this.

Never will I respect this horrible excuse for a leader.

Obama finally talks with – to – world leaders and boy he stunk it up

25 09 2012

The United Nations General Assembly is underway in New York City. Obama attended today and spoke TO the assembly. This is important because he finally made time in his schedule after doing such important things as appearing on The View yesterday while the world leaders were gathering. Remember too that Netanyahu had requested a meeting with Obama when he travelled to New York City for this meeting and the White House said Obama’s schedule was too busy.

So here is an excerpt of this loaded speech:

The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt – it must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted “Muslims, Christians, we are one.” The future must not belong to those who bully women – it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons. The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources – it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs; workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the men and women that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims, and Shiite pilgrims. It is time to heed the words of Gandhi: “Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.” Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, and that is the vision we will support.

Ok – we have the President, who as a boy pushed a girl down on the playground to avoid being made fun of himself (as per his own book) now saying: The future must not belong to those who bully women

He leads with a statement of: The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. So now all of a sudden we are in charge of free speech unless that speech slanders the prophet of Islam.

And this from the candidate who has spent the majority of his campaign defining his and Romney’s differences by attacking and demonizing Romney says: Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them

It really is like he thinks no one is paying attention to this.

Bungled Foreign Policy

15 09 2012

This was a stunning week in which our country was attacked and our President cowered behind a film that no one has seen.

He first deflected criticism of his failed policies behind Mitt Romney, but now as the protest against America spread to dozens of Embassies in dozens of countries, he cannot hid behind Mitt any longer.

There are many great articles surfacing that give good background on this situation. http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/doctrine-failed_652397.html?nopager=1
