If the auto industry was saved, why is the Volt plant closing?

4 09 2012

Democrats at their convention this week are sure to tout Obama’s “saving the auto industry” as part of his accomplishments in his first term.

But this is a little hard to do when one of the GM Volt plants is having to shut down for four weeks due to slow demand.

The Detroit-Hamtramck plant will be closing Sept 17 through October 15, a surprise to the over 1,000 workers. They were already closed for a month earlier this year, March 19 through April 16.

If this is an example of an industry “saved” – one that has to abruptly close for weeks at a time throughout the year – that is a bad example!
